The Recent Phenomenon Of Instant Poker

March 20, 2010

randomcardsIt seems that a new variant of online poker is currently booming in the United States. Instant Poker was first introduced by some major poker sites (Party Poker in particular) in an effort to better streamline their product across systems and player scenarios. For example, a player at work will be looking to play in his browser rather than to download software. That way no traces are left on his business machine. Others will have access to lower throughput connections, and will simply want to bypass download times. Although Party Poker had one of the original no-download poker clients, their strategy has been mirrored by other operators such as Ultimate Bet and Bodog. Today, Instant Poker clients are the shortest distance between a prospective online player and the virtual felt.

Instantpoker.org was conceived to fulfill your immediate poker needs. It is a solid resource that can serve as a compass if you are just starting out. The site even hosts a small poker client for visitors to try out (no sign-up is required). Instantpoker.org currently lists and reviews the best instant holdem clients. They are typically based on Java and playable via your own internet browser. The best ones to date are the following: Ultimate Bet, Bodog, Absolute Poker and Party Poker.

What limitations do the no-download versions have ? Surprisingly little. Yes, you can still use them to play real money. Some may have restrictions on the range of games that you can play, but this is uncommon. As a rule, there is nothing that should prevent you from using the instant version if you prefer. In some instances, you may loose some slight graphical rendering. However, this isn’t what’s going to make or break your poker career. In fact, I personally like my poker clients to be as bare bones as possible in an effort to prevent stalling at all costs.

A question that is often asked is whether new players still need to register for the instant play clients. The answer is “yes” of course. This process varies in time length but is generally significantly shorter than downloading. The poker websites need to keep track of their user base and your information will be safely stored in their database.

What does the future look like for instant poker sites ? Very positive to say the least. As the hardware requirements to play online poker loosen, new platforms like the iPhone will be be ideal to play a few hands of your favorite game.

Differences Between Live and Online Poker

March 19, 2010

Several Differences between Online and Live Poker

The game of poker is one that has seen many changes in its time. The exact roots are subject to debate, however some facts are known. Poker spread to into the backs of bars, to private home games and eventually into casinos. Now is a new age as poker games have moved to the internet. So the question is, what does this mean to the poker player?

The speed of play is an important factor between online poker and live poker play. On the internet the game moves along very fast. The online poker rooms instantly ’shuffle the deck’, so there is no time wasted. Also the computer dealer on the online poker site does not make mistakes or drop the cards. Another factor in the speed of play is the players. In online poker the player is only given around 10 seconds to respond before the software starts beeping and alerting the player. In a live card room a player is sometimes distracted by a conversation with a friend, or ordering a drink and this slows down the game. Because of these factors, it is important to be careful when playing online. If you go on tilt online you can lose a lot faster.

A great advantage to online poker is the availability of a poker game or poker tournament at any hour. With players stretched out across the globe, any time is a great time to play poker. A live game can be harder to come by, but that of course depends on where you live. Before playing at a poker site, please read online poker reviews so you can see if it is a good poker room or not.

Another thing to consider with online poker is the cost of play. With online poker you will usually pay a lower rake per hand. You will also not be expected to tip the dealer, or the waitress for that matter. With the high speed of online play any winning player will win more.  Also online poker rooms offer sign up bonuses with poker bonus codes.  Be sure to get the best poker bonus when signing up at a new poker site.

These are just a few of the differences you will find between live and online poker. There are many other things to consider, such as game selection, amenities of live rooms and others. If you haven’t tried both ways of playing poker you are missing out, and I suggest you go out there and give it a try!

Expekt.com Starts Live Dealer Casino

March 11, 2010

ExpektBannerA couple of months ago Expekt.com decided to update their online casino software and added a Microgaming powered casino to their portfolio. The old casino that is powered by TAIN is still available for those who want’s to use that but we can’t imagine anyone would pick that over the Microgaming version.

As they started using the Microgaming software for their new casino they also added a live dealer casino which should be very interesting for casino players who are mainly interested in playing blackjack, roulette and baccarat. All of those three games are available as live dealer casino games where you actually see a dealer giving you your cards via live stream. Many online casino customers prefer this to the traditional casino games due to the fact that they can be sure that the games are not rigged in any way. The only downside to these live dealer games is that they move a lot slower than the traditional versions as you actually have to sit and wait for the other players to make their decisions. But that’s a small price to pay for the exceptional feel you get from these games in our opinion. When playing these live dealer games you actually get the feel of being present at an actual casino. It doesn’t get any closer to reality than that.

€200 Bonus for New Players
As a new customer at the Expekt Casino you will be able to take advantage of a 100% first deposit bonus up to €200. This means that a €200 first deposit will give you a starting balance of €400. This is a great way to get started and try out the brand new Microgaming powered online casino and live dealer games at Expekt.com. This bonus is only available to players signing up using the Expekt referrer code EXPPBS.
